Subject: Dostie Flag Case
Gary, yesterday, on behalf of the
281st AHC Association, I had the honor of presenting the Flag display case
you provided to Armand Dostie's Widow and Son. They immediately inserted the
Flag they were given at Armand's funeral into the case. I also presented the
Flag explanation sheet you sent. They were very pleased and asked me to
express their appreciation to the Association and to everyone involved in
remembering Armand and his contribution's to the 145th Airlift Platoon and
the 281st AHC.
I brought my Vietnam photo album to share with them and was
able to explain the circumstances we all lived with in Vietnam. You may
remember that I served with Armand for almost a year and a half so I was
also able to help them to identify a number of the individuals in Armand's
collection of Vietnam pictures and their relationship to him. Always label
your pictures was the major lesson I took away from this.
One thing I discovered in looking at Armand's DD-214 is that
there is no mention of a number of medals that I know that he received. For
example, I know that he was awarded the Air Medal with "V" on at least two
occasions and that he has orders for at least eight Oak Leaf clusters, he
also should have gotten a Good Conduct Medal and a Vietnamese Cross of
Gallantry yet they are not listed on his DD-214 which was dated 1995. I
advised his son to gather up his father's citations and orders and I would
provide him with an address so that he could have his records corrected.
FYI, I have attached two pictures of
Armand's family with the Flag Case. Pictured are Armand's widow Diane and
their son Dan. The other picture also includes Armand's Granddaughter's. My
Thanks to the Association for remembering my friend.
