Captain Richard (Dick) Bovio was a 26 year old married aviator from Galveston, Texas. Dick Bovio joined the 281st. AHC Flight on October 13, 1969.  On February 20, 1970 he was flying a combat aviation support mission near Khana Hoa, South Vietnam when the aircraft he was flying was struck by hostile ground fire and he was critically wounded.  The Aircraft Commander maneuvered the heavily damaged UH-1H  helicopter into a landing zone where Capt. Bovio and the other three crew members were rescued.  Dick was rushed to the evacuation hospital in Nah Trang where he died on the 27th of February.  At the time of his Capt. Bovio had been selected to become the Bandit Platoon Leader and was flying with CPT Roger Green the outgoing Platoon Leader.   Hw was a highly respected member of the 281st AHC and shall not  be forgotten.

Roger Green of the 281st AHC Association has adopted Dick Bovio and is preparing his "Book of remembrance" for the 281st AHC association Memorial web site.  Roger Green <Roger green@mail.state.ky.us>
