|
When the 281st was first organized at Fort Benning, it was stood up with a Headquarters and Service Platoon but no Flight Platoons. Additionally it had the 483rd Transportation Detachment and the 499th Signal Detachment attached. Upon arrival in RVN, the 281st absorbed the 2/171st which had recently been formed by combining the 145th and 6th Aviation Platoons (Airlift). Once this was accomplished the 281st was complete. The unit was assigned to the 1st Aviation Brigade, 17th Combat Aviation Group, 10th Combat Aviation Battalion and attached under Operational Control to the 5th Special Forces Group (ABN). Eventually the 483rd and 499th were stood down and absorbed into the 281st AHC.
