Subject: G Co Christmas Party photo with Elves
Hello Fred;
This is Julia Middleton here from the G Company Intruders at Fort Drum. I was
told you were the man who could post some pictures for us. Would you be able to
post a few pictures on our part of the 281st. website?
We handed out the elves from "Santa Claus" at our G Co. Christmas party on Dec.
11, and they were a big hit! Two photos are of all the kids at the party with
their elves, one is of the newest addition to our company a little baby boy
:=) and a few more are of the kids having fun with their elves.
Thank you so much!
Julia Middleton

Subject: HELLO FRIENDS! : =)
Dear Intruders,
I would like to thank you so very much for all the support you are giving our
guys during this deployment. I am so very grateful to be able to know that even
when I get to feeling down about this deployment, I have a second family to turn
to who knows how I feel.
It's very difficult since I moved back to Tennessee while my husband is
deployed, to find a support system shy of The Patriot Guard. (Which I am also
very thankful to have too) But meeting you gentlemen was such a very humbling
experience and I owe such a debt of gratitude for the morale boost.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for everything that you are doing, and
have done by serving our country. I'm sad I won't be in NY to visit for
Christmas but know that I will be there in spirit. I really hope this email
finds every single one of you in amazing health and happiness.
With a LOT of love!
Racheal Hodges

TROOP SUPPORT COMMITTEE
Recently at the invitation of the Commanding Officer of G
Company 2/10 Aviation Battalion several former Intruders, under the command of
Ed Haas, the association VP (haasEd@ix.netcom.com) traveled to Fort Drum to meet
with the members of the unit and discuss their selection of the “Intruder” Call
Sign for their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan, In addition the unit designed
their unit patch, which they have been authorized to wear on their uniforms,
around the 281st unit patch using “Hell From Above” as their unit slogan. As a
part of Task Force “Night Hawk” G Company will provide aviation support to the
Special Forces Units in country using their Black Hawks, attached Apaches and
attached Medical Evacuation helicopters. The company, without the attached units
is a smaller version of the 281st and one might say that it is a “mean and lean”
organization.
The officers and the First Sergeant hosted a dinner for the 281st Intruders
which turned into a lively exchange of war stories. A large percentage of the
members of the unit have served two or more tours in Iraq or Afghanistan and
most are WO2s with several WO3s and one WO4. They will deploy as a unit, serve
one year and return to Fort Drum where most of them are leaving their families.
In response to their selection of the 281st as their legacy unit and in turn
adopting our call sign and unit patch the 281st Association has selected G
Company as our troop support unit for 2010/11 and Joe Bilitzke
(bilitzke@mindspring.com) has been appointed Chairman of the troop support
committee. Joe will have more to say on the plan to recognize and support the
unit during their deployment.
Fred Mentzer is developing a website page for the new Intruders and will post
pictures and reports from them as they arrive so as to keep the membership
informed of their progress.
As far as we can determine this is the first time that a deactivated unit has
been so honored by an active unit and in so doing they are taking a proud
Intruder legacy back in to combat. Good speed to all the new Intruders.
Following are pictures taken at the Ft Drum event, not necesarily in
