During the years the 281st AHC, its attached units, the 499th Signal and 483rd Transportation and its predecessor units, the 145th ALP, 6th ALP and 2/171st were operational in the Republic of Vietnam, there existed a camaraderie between the members that crossed the boundaries of rank, position and age. The men of these units worked together as a unified team to get the mission accomplished and in so doing forged friendships, bonds and alliances that are still active today, over thirty years later. That bond is the foundation and cornerstone of the 281st AHC Association. The 281st AHC Association was formed, in its present configuration, in 1999 by a handful of guys that longed for that same camaraderie they experienced so many years ago in a different place and a different time. From that beginning, the association membership is approaching 250 members and growing daily. Over 500 former members have been located and contacted, we still have some 1500 to 2000 more that are looking for the rest of us today. Hopefully this website will help find those men and link them to their old buddies once again.
The 145th Aviation Platoon (Airlift), 6th Aviation Platoon (Airlift), 2/171st Aviation Company, 281st Aviation Company (Airmobile Light), 499th Signal Detachment and the 483rd Transportation Detachment are all considered to be part of the 281st Assault Helicopter Company units.
